elope: run away to marry, run off/away together, slip away, sneak off, steal away; run off/away with a lover
Well to elope was exactly what Katie & Vaughan did one Monday morning. It was just these two and Katie’s parents. We turned up at Haringey Civic Centre, Katie was rocking a gorgeous red dress and Vaughan came prepared in his cherry red DM’s and braces. There were no nerves, just lots of smiles and a lot of excitement from the parents. As myself and Katie’s parents took our places in the ceremony room, Katie & Vaughan got to have a few moments on their own. They walked into their wedding ceremony together, smiles beaming from ear to ear. For them, this was it, the dotting of the i’s and the crossing of the t’s. They were there to get married…it was meant to be.
During their London elopement, there were little touches, little glances between the two of them, I could tell that these two were undeniably in love. That is one of the things I love about what I do, that I get to witness and document such an important day for two people completely devoted to each other. I have known Katie for a few years and during the ceremony I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room and to be able to document this day for Katie and Vaughan was a real honour. After the marriage certificate was signed, we headed into the grounds of the Haringey Civic Centre to take some portraits. The building has great glass windows full of palms and I did all I could to utilise these for their portraits. Katie and Vaughan are big on the outdoors and so it was important to bring an element of this into their portraits.
