Best of 2017 – part one

Better late than never! Here is part one of my best of 2017. 2017 was a whirlwind, just like any other year.  I got to travel, I spoke at a conference, several times, infront of over a 100 people but more importantly I got to photograph some amazing couples.  I got to be a part of so many very special days and I got to give my couples and families a collection of memories that they will cherish for a lifetime. 

Every year I get invited into  wonderful families and be let into the fold for the day. I get to see the tears and happiness, the stresses and strains, the nerves and the excitement and I get to document it all. Bottle it up into photographs that get displayed on walls and printed, passed down through generations and loved.

Every year I am reminded to seek out those little moments, the connections, the things that go unseen and capture that in one frame. I reminded to look at the bigger picture and tell the story through all the little moments.

Every year I tell myself that I will not cry at each wedding and every year I am wrong. At each wedding there is a moment, whether it’s the dress going on, a parent seeing their child in their wedding outfit, a groom seeing his groom for the first time or a father telling a room full of family and friends how much he loves his child, where I am overwhelmed with emotion and shed a little tear. Each year I am reminded of the power of love, of friendship and of family. Of how each of these couples has overcome something to find their person, to fall in love and have the strength and courage to stand up in front of everyone and say ‘I LOVE YOU’

And every year I fall in love with my job and my couples and photography.
